What to ask

Once connected, try these prompts in your assistant.

Census 2021

Explore official ONS population, age profiles and Welsh-speaking ability for Cardiff wards and MSOAs, and compare Welsh local authorities.

  • “Compare the age profiles of Llanishen and Grangetown”
  • “Which Cardiff wards had the highest proportion of Welsh speakers in 2021?”
  • “Compare Cardiff and Swansea’s Census 2021 populations”

Statistics describe 21 March 2021, not today. Ward boundaries are from May 2022 and may differ from neighbourhoods.

Food hygiene

Find Cardiff food businesses and live inspection details, or compare food hygiene across electoral wards using a complete dated snapshot.

  • “Find cafés in Cardiff with a food hygiene rating of 5”
  • “Which restaurants in Grangetown have a hygiene rating of 5?”
  • “Compare food hygiene rating distributions across Cardiff wards”

Ward results show their snapshot date and location coverage. Café searches use the broader Restaurant/Cafe/Canteen category.

Schools

Explore Cardiff schools by name, size, school phase or language provision. Get a school profile with contact details, pupil numbers, year groups and free-school-meal eligibility.

  • “Find Welsh-medium primary schools in Cardiff”
  • “What's the largest school in Cardiff?”
  • “How many maintained secondary schools are located in each Cardiff ward?”

Ward allocations use approximate postcode locations, not catchments. Welsh-medium and dual-language groups include transitional provision.

About the data

Food hygiene ratings come from the Food Standards Agency and reflect standards found on the inspection date. They do not assess food quality or provide menus, opening hours, bookings or availability. Ratings can change; results include inspection dates and official source links.

School details come from a manually refreshed snapshot of the Welsh Government school register. Results include publication and import dates. School profiles also include published StatsWales pupil and FSM statistics with their census dates. FSM eligibility differs from universal primary meal provision. Counts may be rounded or suppressed. These figures do not measure school quality or provide live enrolment, catchments, inspections or performance results.

Census statistics are queried from the Office for National Statistics API. They describe Census Day, 21 March 2021, rather than current population estimates. Welsh-speaking percentages cover residents aged three or over. Wards use May 2022 boundaries; approximate neighbourhood matches require an explicit area selection. Disclosure control can cause small differences between topic totals.

Shared geography uses official May 2022 ward boundaries and 2021 statistical areas. Postcode allocations are approximate; missing locations remain unresolved and coverage is reported. Ward food searches and comparisons use manually refreshed FSA snapshots, while individual records remain live. Matching ward codes does not make Census and establishment reporting periods contemporary.
